We arrived to Mexico City four days ago with no hotel reservations or idea of where we were going. Feeling alert with no jetlag, we pushed our way through the busy city (excercising my rusty Spanish) to find a hotel near the Centro Historico. The Zocalo (town center plaza) was surprisingly festive and decorated in large lighted sculptures for the upcoming Christmas holidays. We wandered around watching some students perform some traditional Aztec dancing and chased some renegade floating cotton candy that venders were letting loose into the crowds. Two days in Mexico City was about all we could handle even though we enjoyed the Pyramids of Teotihuacan.

» MEXICO CITY TO THE SILVER CAPITAL

So we packed up and took the two hour bus ride south to the the colonial town of Taxco (pronounced TASS-co). The town of Taxco has over 300 silver shops! It is described as being the most picturesque and pleasant places in Mexico. It truely has charm with small windy cobblestone streets and great views..

This is a picture from the balcony of our room in the Hotel San Javier in Taxco. Unfortunately, it was only available for one night. But, we found another rooftop room with a great view.

This is actually a picture from the Pyramids of Teotihuacan in Mexico City. You can see the people in the background making the hike up. It was a nice day trip out of town.

Taxco is beautiful from every angle. There are hundreds of VW microbuses and beetles scooting around all the streets. The stores just ooze with silver jewelry and the food has been fantastic. I'm in heaven!

Well, I wish I had a good story to go with this twisted ankle but it simply happened when I stepped out of our room and didn't see the small step. Luckily, we were well equipped with ice pack and ace bandage. However, the best medicine was the bucket of Coronas that we drank afterwards in the bar below.

No Monctezumas Revenge as of yet...here Brian is eating enchiladas oaxaquenos which is enchiladas coved with a red mole sauce (not his favorite), Anything covered in the delicious green chili sauce has been a favorite, especially the sychronizadas (quesadillas with ham). Brian even had a bite of rice this morning!
